Polypropylene Ropes
Polypropylene ropes are requested for appropriate project, port and general handling applications as well as marine applications. In an enquiry the following points about construction, diameter, length, colour, strand arrangement, breaking-load and eye splices and end finishing should be identified.

Marker buoys, mooring buoys, floats, pick-up buoys and various other types of flotation products may be required for marine and/or project needs. The application, buoy type, size, colour, buoyancy/capacity, attachment points, markings, reflective features and mooring arrangement shall be supplied by the customer.
The position, colour, light characteristic, number and anchor of a buoy used as a part of a navigation or mooring system should be based upon the approved buoy design and relevant authorities requirements. BIC provides the identified product package, but is not responsible for designating navigation or regulation.
Swivels, chains, connectors, sinkers or mooring hardware (when used separately) should be included as accessories on the listing with required grade, size and documentation. Engineered mooring assemblies need to be evaluated as a whole system by the designing responsible party.
Enquiries for project and vessel support may be for navigation lights, signal lights, day shapes, flags, reflectors, signs, marker products and other types of visual or identification materials specified. Details of the function, location, power supply, visibility, colour, mounting and approval condition should be specified.

Depending on the scope approved, customers can order marine-facility materials, ladders, floats, hooks, fastening products, protective covers, marine signs and deck consumables as well as hose accessories. Each item should be listed as an individual request – do not use a general request for marine equipment.
Drawings, design loads, foundation details, engineering plans, and inspection plans provided by the manufacturer might be necessary for heavy engineered products like bollards, quick release hooks, gangways or full berthing systems. The requirements are evaluated on a project basis as a package and are not considered to be standard stock items.
For accessories that attach to a vessel or a fixed structure, compatibility, size and corrosion and loading conditions need to be assessed by the responsible engineer prior to approval.

Manufacturer datasheets, certificates of conformity, test records, inspection reports, safety data, batch information, serial numbers, markings, drawings, manuals and packing lists are some of the required documents. At enquiry stage the customer should specify the set of documents required.
Availability of documentation varies from product to product and manufacturer to manufacturer. The records for a project-manufactured product or class-related product may not be the same as those that may be included in a general commercial item. Prior to acceptance of a quotation, therefore, it is important that required certification be confirmed.
For products that must be individually identified, tags, serial numbers or project labels should be marked in a format that is given before the packing and dispatch.
Pre delivery checks could be performed on the quantity, dimensions, visual condition, markings, accessories and documentation and packaging depending on the product. If necessary, due to the approved specification, functional or witnessed testing should be requested prior to the testing.
Pilot ladders, fenders, ropes and navigation products along with other safety/operation related items should be rechecked before dispatch and by receiving/authorised user before service, against their approved documents.
Inspection co-ordination by BIC does not remove the responsibility or operational acceptance for the uptake of the product from the vessel, contractor, owner or authority.
To minimize the moisture exposure, ultraviolet damage, deformation, abrasion, contamination and loss of accessories during transport the marine materials need to be packed properly. Long ropes may require coils, reels or pallets, fenders and buoys may need protected loading points and ladders and navigation products may need individual packaging.
Products should be stored at receiving site in accordance with manufacturer’s directions. Ropes and ladders should be kept clean, dry and free from harmful chemicals and sharp objects. Lubricants and electrical goods should be kept within the specified conditions and dates.
The customer needs to ensure that there are windows of time for the goods to be delivered which are limited, port/terminal access, offloading arrangements and any packaging restrictions before sending.
BIC can provide for planned packages of materials, routine replacement, shutdown activity and appropriate urgent requirements. The delivery method is dependent on the level of specification to be delivered, as well as approved conditions from the manufacturer, as well as the quantity, inspection and logistics.
Photographs are not necessarily a specification; only if no construction, capacity or approval information can be seen on the photo.
With larger packages, it is important to make an early enquiry, to give time for the technical aspects to be clarified, the product to be approved, the manufacturing, the inspection, the packing and the coordinated delivery.
